Low, Murchison believes that the articling program is an essential aspect in the education of future members of the legal profession. We endeavour to provide the highest standard of service to our clients and our student is expected to assume responsibility within the framework of his or her abilities to assist us in reaching that goal. The firm does not rely upon a formal rotation system but makes every effort to ensure that the student is exposed to all areas of practice within the firm. At the same time, the firm appreciates that the student's interests may be focused on specific areas of law and as a result, during the last quarter, the articling student's energies may be directed to specific areas if so requested by the student. Our articling student works independently with his/her own case load under the supervision of a responsible lawyer and assists other lawyers in the firm with their files. We foster an open door policy in our firm and expect that the articling student will take advantage of this opportunity to seek advice from other lawyers within the firm. We feel that this interaction not only provides guidance and information, but also provides the student with different perspectives or approaches to providing services to our clients and solving legal issues. To assist the student in understanding the business aspect of the practice of law, the student is also encouraged to attend and participate at our monthly lawyers' meetings and to participate on one or more of the firm's committees, which include Marketing, Health and Safety and Social. Feedback is provided to the articling student throughout the course of the articling program. The student's progress is then reviewed at the mid-point of the articling term to ensure that the fullest range of experience is obtained and appropriate feedback is being provided. Our students complete the Articles of Clerkship well equipped to begin the practice of law. It is the practice of our firm to recruit lawyers largely from among our articling students. Many of our present lawyers are former articled students with the firm. Low, Murchison is proud of the camaraderie generated among the lawyers and staff. This extends to firm events such as Christmas and Summer parties and our monthly staff get-togethers. Low, Murchison welcomes your interest in joining our firm as an articling student and would be pleased to answer any questions you may have concerning Low, Murchison in general, or its articling program in particular.
