Articling Program
Low, Murchison LLP believes that the articling program is an essential aspect in the education of future members of the legal profession. We endeavour to provide the highest standard of service to our clients and our student is expected to assume responsibility within the framework of his or her abilities to assist us in reaching that goal.
The firm does not rely upon a formal rotation system but makes every effort to ensure that the student is exposed to all areas of practice within the firm. However, at the same time, the firm appreciates that the student's interests may be focussed on certain areas during the course of the Articles of Clerkship and as a result, during the last quarter, the articling student's energies may be directed to specific areas if so requested by the student.
The Student will work independently with his/her own case load as well as assist on files with other lawyers in the firm.
The student's progress is reviewed monthly in the first quarter and quarterly thereafter to ensure that a full range of experience is obtained and appropriate feedback is provided. We have found that our students have completed our program well equipped to begin the practice of law.
We foster an open door policy in our firm and expect that the articling student will take advantage of this opportunity to seek advice from the other members of the firm. We feel that this interaction not only shares information and guidance, but also provides the student with different perspectives or approaches to a matter that is helpful.
Low, Murchison LLP is proud of the camaraderie generated among the lawyers and staff. This extends to not only our firm events such as ski days, sleigh rides, curling bonspiels and parties, but also our weekly lunches together that the student is encouraged to attend.
It is the policy of our firm to recruit lawyers largely from among our students. Most of our present lawyers are former articled students with the firm.
Low, Murchison LLP welcomes your interest in joining our firm as an articling student and would be pleased to answer any questions you may have concerning Low, Murchison LLP in general, or its articling program in particular.
Your questions may be directed to the Chair of our Articling Committee, Carol Cochrane.
